Shuber’s story

“Me too, honey. Let’s go. I’m sure he’ll love it.” Sarah said, warmly.

They got in the car and drove to the nursing home where grandpa lived. They couldn’t wait to see him and hug him. They couldn’t wait to give him his surprise and make him happy. They couldn’t wait to tell him how much they loved him and how proud they were of him. They couldn’t wait to spend some time with him and make some new memories. They couldn’t wait to celebrate his life and his legacy. When Grandpa was 104 he had a party for Shuber who is 60 but still lives with SarahGrandpa was overjoyed when he saw Shuber, Sarah, and their son walk into his room. He hugged them and kissed them and thanked them for coming. He looked at them with love and admiration. They were his family, his reason for living, his pride and joy. He was amazed by how much they had grown and changed. Shuber was 60, but still looked young and handsome. He had a successful career as a delivery driver, and he loved his job. He was married to Sarah, who was 59, but still looked beautiful and radiant. She had a fulfilling career as a teacher, and she loved her students. They had a son, who was 30, but still looked like a kid. He had a promising career as a journalist, and he loved his stories. He was also engaged to a lovely girl, who was 28, and who grandpa adored. She was a nurse, and she loved her patients. They were all happy and healthy and living their dreams.

Grandpa was also surprised by the party they had planned for him. They had brought a cake, balloons, streamers, and presents. They had invited some of his friends from the nursing home, and some of his old friends from the town. They had also arranged a video call with some of his relatives from abroad, who couldn’t make it in person. They had prepared a speech, a song, and a slideshow for him. They had made him feel special and appreciated. They had made him feel alive and young again.Grandpa was overjoyed when he saw Shuber, Sarah, and their son walk into his room. Use dialogue and action to show the characters’ personalities and emotions, rather than telling them. For example:
“Grandpa, we’re here. Happy birthday!” Shuber shouted, as he opened the door to grandpa’s room.

“Shuber, Sarah, my boy, my girl. Come here, let me hug you.” Grandpa said, as he got up from his bed and embraced them.

“Grandpa, you look great. How are you feeling?” Sarah asked, as she kissed his cheek.

“I’m feeling wonderful, thanks to you. You are so kind and thoughtful. You always make me happy.” Grandpa said, as he smiled at her.

“Grandpa, we have a surprise for you. Look who’s here.” Shuber said, as he pointed to their son, who was holding a big box.

“Hello, grandpa. Happy birthday. I have a gift for you.” Their son said, as he walked over to him and handed him the box.

“My grandson, my namesake. You are so handsome and smart. I’m so proud of you. And what is this? A gift for me? You shouldn’t have.” Grandpa said, as he took the box and opened it.

“It’s a photo album, grandpa. It has pictures of our family and memories of our time together. We made it for you, to show you how much we love you and appreciate you.” Their son said, as he helped him flip through the pages.

“Oh, this is wonderful. This is the best gift ever. Thank you so much. I love you, my boy.” Grandpa said, as he looked at the photos and felt a tear roll down his cheek.

“Grandpa, this is not the only surprise. We have more for you. Come on, let’s go to the common room. We have a party for you.” Shuber said, as he took grandpa’s hand and led him to the door.

“A party? For me? You are kidding me.” Grandpa said, as he followed him.

“No, we are not kidding. We have a cake, balloons, streamers, and presents. We have your friends, old and new. We have your relatives, near and far. We have a speech, a song, and a slideshow for you. We have everything you need to have a great time. Come on, grandpa. Let’s go celebrate your life and your legacy.” Shuber said, as he opened the door and revealed the party.

“Wow, this is amazing. This is unbelievable. This is the best day of my life. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I love you, my children. You are the best thing that ever happened to me. You make me happy and proud. You are my life and my soul.” Grandpa said, as he walked into the room and saw the party.
