The biggest birthday card in the world

Julie had a little brother called Tom. She was pointing to a poster on the wall. It was a picture of a smiling old lady with white hair and glasses. ‘Who’s that?’ said Tom, curiously. ‘That’s Mrs. May Evans,’ she said. ‘She is 102 years old. That is very, very old,’ said Julie, in awe. ‘She lives in the farm across the road. That’s Old Dick’s mother. He works there as a farmhand. He is very nice to us. He sometimes gives us apples and eggs. We must make her a birthday card. It’s her birthday tomorrow.’ Tom nodded, excitedly. He liked Old Dick and Mrs. May Evans. He wondered what kind of card they could make for her. Julie smiled and said, ‘Let’s go and see Old Dick. He is 80 years old and is still driving his old tractor, which he learned to drive when he was your age,’ she said to Tom, who was seven. They ran outside and saw Old Dick plowing the field with his rusty red tractor. He waved at them and stopped the engine. ‘Hello, kids. What brings you here?’ he asked, kindly. ‘We want to make a birthday card for your mother,’ Julie said. ‘She is 102 years old. That is amazing.’ Old Dick smiled and said, ‘Yes, she is. She is the oldest person in the village. She has seen a lot of things in her life. She loves getting cards from people. She has a whole collection of them in her room. Do you want to see?’ yes please said Tom happily my mum tells me when i was seven said Old Dick Yes, please,” said Tom, happily. He was eager to see the cards that Mrs. May Evans had received. He wondered what they looked like and what they said. “My mum tells me when I was seven,” said Old Dick, nostalgically. “I made her a card with a picture of a cow and a flower. She loved it so much that she kept it in her drawer. She still has it, you know. She has all the cards that I ever made for her. And many more from other people. She is very popular, my mum. Everyone likes her. Come on, I’ll show you.” He led them to the farmhouse, where a small sign said ‘Happy Birthday, Mum’. He opened the door and said, ‘Mum, we have some visitors. They want to wish you a happy birthday and make you a card.’ A voice from inside said, ‘Oh, how lovely. Come in, come in.’ They entered the room and saw Mrs. May Evans sitting on a rocking chair, surrounded by cards of all shapes, sizes, and colors. She smiled and said, ‘Hello, children. I’m so glad you came. I’m Mrs. May Evans, but you can call me Granny May. This is my son, Old Dick. He’s not so old, really. He’s only 80. I’m 102, you know. That’s very, very old. But I’m happy. I have a wonderful family and friends. And I have these beautiful cards. Look at them. Aren’t they lovely? Who old were you Mrs. May Evans when Old Dick was my age Tom reminded her.
