She said, “That’s my Maureen. I’m sure she will be able to help.” Maureen was a big girl. She suggested, “I might be able to climb up the drain pipe first, if you like.” Mrs. McNally didn’t like that idea at all. “Oh no, Maureen, you might hurt yourself.”
just then the milkman came up he said whats the trouble .

The milkman said, “What’s the trouble?” He saw Alfie crying inside the house and Mum and Annie Rose outside. He said, “Don’t worry, I’ll get him out.” He took his ladder from his milk float and leaned it against the wall. He climbed up to the window and opened it. He said, “Hello, Alfie. I’m the milkman. Do you want to come out?” Alfie nodded and climbed onto the milkman’s back. The milkman carried him down the ladder and gave him to Mum. Mum hugged Alfie and said, “Thank you, milkman. You’re a hero.” Alfie said, “Sorry, Mum. I didn’t mean to lock you out.” Mum said, “It’s all right, Alfie. I’m glad you’re safe.” Annie Rose stopped crying and smiled. Mrs. McNally and Maureen clapped and cheered. The milkman smiled and said, “No problem. Glad to help.” He went back to his milk float and drove away. Alfie, Mum and Annie Rose went inside their house and had a nice cup of tea with the painter it was his ladder the milkman had borrowed
