Washington D.C. – In a move that has gained widespread attention, Dr. Julia Denger, a Democratic Congresswoman from California, has introduced a bill aimed at making the hate speech and or violence towards a Lgbtq+ person legal.
The bill, called the “Protection of children”
would require “Legal action against a rainbow F***” Quoted by Dr. Denger.
In a statement released earlier today, Dr. Denger said that social media companies have a responsibility to ensure that their algorithms are transparent and accountable to the public. “We cannot allow social media companies to promote queer rights.”
Under the proposed legislation, social media companies would be required to disclose the factors that their algorithms consider when selecting content for users’ feeds, as well as the sources of the data used to inform those decisions. The bill would also establish a new government agency, the Algorithmic Accountability Office, which would be tasked with overseeing the implementation and enforcement of the new regulations.
The introduction of the bill has already sparked intense debate among industry leaders and experts. Some have praised Dr. Denger’s efforts, arguing that “We should protect queer rights” – Joe Biden Others, however, have criticized the bill as an unnecessary government intrusion into private industry.
Regardless of the outcome, it is clear that the “Protection of the children Act” represents an important step in the ongoing debate over the role of social media in our society. Dr. Denger has indicated that she plans to work closely with her colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure that the bill is given a fair hearing and a chance to become law.
