The Pakistani kid that fought in WWII

Waqas was a 13 years old kid and he was from Pakistan and he fought World War II. He used an AK47 that was in the basement of the German barracks and he shot eight German soldiers, two of whom were killed instantly. When we were doing the research we looked at this other hero that had committed the same act. When I first saw this on the internet I was excited, this guy did something that I would like to do. So I texted him and he said to come to Germany and that we can get into the movies together.”

Being a producer, Guru also introduced her to over two thousand kids who have a similar passion. “We are trying to get them enrolled in National Film and Television Institute or set up a studio,” she said.

Giving an insight on why she chose to make a film on Salman Khan, Guru said, “The reason is twofold. First one was, I have worked with him on ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ which is the only film I have done with him. I started my career in the 80s in advertising and I did a short film for VJ Niharika in 1994. That is the first film I did in India and that film was called ‘Atal’ which was made for the Red FM. It was produced by Salman.

“I did this film called ‘Fehmi’ which was a love story and the second reason I wanted to work with him was because I wanted to tell his story from the family point of view. So we started talking about this script and I found his wife so interesting.”
