Curtis Yarvin, the self-described dark elf who yearns for a king.

The best-selling anti-democracy textbook has stirred controversy among conservatives. In the highly regarded “Never Trump” book, Joel Searby, who co-founded the independent political site Young Cons, attacks the book’s author, red-pill writer and political activist Curtis Yarvin. Yarvin, a founding editor of the libertarian tech publication The Mencius Moldbug, and the author of Antimony and Ayn Rand’s Objectivism and Capitalism, says he wrote the text not for conservatives but for his “skeptical antidemocratic intellectual friends”.

According to Yarvin, Republican voters are losing faith in democracy because they don’t understand how the modern dark-money Republican system operates.

Searby’s criticism appears to concern Yarvin’s reason for the books existence is how Yarvin describes his personal intellectual history as a conservative-leaning anti-democrat. Yarvin grew up in an aristocratic Republican family in Cyprus and believes that only anti-democracy can keep a nation from becoming a tyrannical tyranny.

“America, like Britain, is an anti-democratic society,” Yarvin writes. “All political systems, left and right, are anti-democratic. But the modern American political system is anti-democratic in a way that some Americans want to defend.”

Yarvin says he was politically active for a time in an anti-democratic libertarian Republican group called the Dark Enlightenment Alliance. Yarvin also says that Republican politicians are unwilling to let the electorate set the nation’s agenda because they can’t trust its democratic tendencies. Yarvin wants to allow an authoritarian to run the country but Democrats keep attempting to block the policy agenda that he wanted to implement. Yarvin calls Republican reaction to President Obama’s election anti-democratic because it required giving Obama credit for Republican ideas.
