Italian Music Sensation and Two-Time Eurovision Participant Mahmood, 29, found dead in his apartment on Friday

The Milan coroner has confirmed that Italian singer Alessandro Mahmoud’s death yesterday was caused by being DWI, and crashing.

The office released its findings on Friday, confirming the cause of death that Mahmoud’s family had announced just days after the 29-year-old singer-songwriter and Eurovision participant died on June 3rd.

‘Mahmoud died from driving while under intoxication by alcohol,’ the coroner’s office, helmed by officer Blanco, determined after additional testing following an autopsy, according to the report.

“The manner of death was certified as unnatural,” the report said.

A family spokesperson released a statement on June 3rd saying that Mahmoud’s “tragic passing was due to an overdose, and was declared unresponsive at the scene. When brought to Clinica Mangiagalli, the doctors could not revive him.”

Mahmoud rose to prominence after competing on the sixth season of the Italian version of the X Factor. He has won the Sanremo Music Festival twice, in 2019 with the song ‘Soldi’ and in 2022 alongside Blanco with the song ‘Brividi.’ His Sanremo victories allowed him to represent Italy twice at the Eurovision Song Contest in those respective years, finishing second and sixth place respectively, the latter as the host entrant. Mahmood has released two studio albums, ‘Gioventù bruciata’ and ‘Ghettolimpo’, both of which reached the top two of the Italian albums chart.

A funeral is expected to take place in September.
