September 11, 2021 – The family of Tayvion Cole, the east Brickton teen tragically shot and killed during an early August block party in Shaffer Village, has announced it will hold an all-day remembrance vigil at Brookhaven Lutheran this coming Wednesday. National success of the #RIPTayvionCole movement has been embraced by the Cole family, who called it ‘an unfortunate saving grace’ in drawing attention to Brickton’s rap violence epidemic, which has taken upwards of six lives in the past two years. The vigil will be attended by controversial precinct 2 chief of police Petare Ruiz-Ortega, and close with remarks by city manager Grady Carsson to be televised on BFOX@9, among others.
