26 year old Melanie Martinez found dead

Yesterday at 9:45 pm, the 25-year-old singer and songwriter Melanie Martinez’s body was recovered.

She had been seen visiting relatives and was said to have been shot by a crazed fan.
The person in question is a 24-year old white man, his name hasn’t been released to the public yet. Tragedy strikes a Stockton family twice in just 10 days.

Just 24 hours after 26-year-old Melanie Martinez’s family laid her to rest, another family member was also shot and killed. The Stockton Police Department said the shooting happened on the 2000 block of Madrid Drive on Tuesday night.

Melanie’s aunt, Jackie Gonzalez, told FOX40 her nephew, Jose Nunez, was gunned down. He’s the father of two young boys. Gonzalez said Nunez was devastated after Melanie’s death and with his death, the family is overwhelmed. They can’t believe they’ll have to bury another family member in the next few days.

More candles, bullet holes, more heartbreak for Melanie’s family.

“Upset. Very upset,” Gonzalez said.

Investigators say that Melanie was shot and killed in South Stockton. Gonzalez said Nunez was deeply saddened by her death. Her funeral date hasn’t been released yet.

“Just laid her to rest and then the next day this happens,” she said.

Witnesses said a gunman in a silver or gray colored car opened fire on Nunez. He had been talking to some friends outside of his home on Madrid Drive on Tuesday night. Nunez was shot at least once in the head then died at a Modesto hospital.

“Obviously our detectives are looking at both cases to see if they are related, but at this time we don’t have any information that the two are related,” said Officer Joe Silva, a spokesman for the Stockton Police Department.

“We also need the community’s help so that we can speed up this process by getting good information over to our investigators,” Silva said.

Gonzalez said she hopes someone will speak up so the family can move forward from losing Nunez and Melanie.

“We just want justice. That’s it. That’s all I’m asking for,” Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez said Nunez was not involved with gangs. If you have any information on any of these cases please contact crime stoppers. There is a $15,000 cash reward for Nunez’s homicide thanks to a donation, Officer Silva said.
