The Associated Press has reported that Russian troops have engaged in gunfire and swiftly entered Ukraine early Sunday morning.

According to reports, at around 6 AM local time, Russian armed forces engaged in gunfire with Ukranian troops around 10 miles north of the city of Kharkiv. By 7 A.M Russian mobile units advanced south near the city.

A state of emergency has been declared in Ukraine. The Ukranian Ministry of the Interior commented on the situation to UkraineNewsNow: “Ukraine is engaged in a battle north of Kharkiv with Russian Armed Forces. The wider scope of the situation is still unknown but this is an act of war.” The Kremlin has yet to comment.

William McBarr, a top-level military analyst on Eastern Europe commented to channel46: “The scene is still unclear, however this appears to be the beginning of a war between Ukraine and Russia. More advancements are likely to come in coming hours.”

On Saturday night the Ukrainian Armed Forces had declared that a Russian invasion is near and called for calm among the public.

The United States as well as the E.U have pledged harsh sanctions on Russia should it invade. U.S. President Joe Biden remarked that “the Russian economy will collapse, should it invade.”
