Shooting in Sarajevo Leaves 6 Dead, At Least 8 Injured

A man has been taken into custody yesterday after six people were shot dead in Baščaršija, Sarajevo. An additional eight were wounded with moderate injuries and have been taken to hospital.

An adult woman was among one of the six fatalities, the Sarajevo Police report. Other fatalities involve a group of young adult males making their way home from their evening classes.

One of the eyewitnesses, whose identity wishes to be hidden, claimed that a number of people ran for their lives after gunshots were heard nearby, and that all those who were injured had not managed to eacape in time. (Source: Balkan Insight)

Mohamad Pačalinak, friend of the injured males, has informed us that the victims are expexted to make a full recovery within the next 48 hours. “My friends have been quite active on WhatsApp since this morning”, he said, “they are certain that their lives aren’t in jeopardy.”

The motive of the attack is unknown; the attacker is said to be in his mid-20’s, and described as being tall and lanky with fluffy blond hair.

Sarajevo Mayor, Benjamina Karić, is rumoured to comment on the incident at 9pm CEST tonight.
