Shooting in Sarajevo Leaves 6 Dead, At Least 8 Injured

A man has been taken into custody yesterday after six people were shot dead in Baščaršija, Sarajevo. An additional eight were wounded with moderate injuries and have been taken to hospital.

An adult woman was among one of the six fatalities, the Sarajevo Police report. Other fatalities involve a group of young adult males making their way home from their evening classes.

One of the eyewitnesses, whose identity wishes to be hidden, claimed that a number of people ran for their lives after gunshots were heard nearby, and that all those who were injured had not managed to eacape in time. (Source: Balkan Insight)

Mohamad Pačalinak, friend of the injured males, has informed us that the victims are expected to make a full recovery within the next 48 hours. “My friends have been quite active on WhatsApp since this morning”, he said, “they are certain that their lives aren’t in jeopardy, and are happy to know that they will make a full recovery very soon.”

The motive of the attack is unknown; the attacker is said to be in his mid-20’s, and described as being tall with fluffy blond hair and a thin build. Anyone familiar with the attacker is urged to report to this address:

Sarajevo Mayor, Benjamina Karić, is rumoured to comment on the incident at 9pm CEST tonight. Experts suggest that this will mark a critical point in her mayorship, and believe this shooting will play a key role in her pledge to add more police to the streets.
