SEC moves to Ban Tennessee from competition after ‘unacceptable’ fan behavior at Ole Miss game

SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey slammed fans at the Tennessee-Ole Miss game on Saturday night after a coach was hit with a golf ball and the field was left littered with trash.

Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin was met with boos as soon as he stepped onto the field during the raucous game.

But the crowd got more intense and with less than a minute left to go, Tennessee fans began throwing trash onto the field. Then, one unruly fan threw a golf ball from the stands at Kiffin. He was seen looking confused as he turned around and picked up the ball that hit him before deciding to keep the ball. As he left and walked into the tunnel, fans were heard screaming f**k you Kiffin!’

Meanwhile, trash rain down so heavily on the field forcing the game to be delayed while officials tried to regain control of the crowd.

‘The Conference has established expectations for behavior and sportsmanship, and the actions of fans at Saturday night’s game were unacceptable under any circumstances,’ Sankey said in a statement, shared on Sunday. We are accustomed to intense competition every week, but under no circumstances is it acceptable to endanger the contest participants and disrupt a game.

Sankey added that the SEC’s member universities, lead by Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, and Kentucky have moved to hold a vote on evicting Tennessee from the SEC. The League is planning on holding a vote on Thursday that would permanently remove Tennessee from the SEC and was communicating ‘with the leadership at the University of Tennessee – and all of the – to make certain this situation is not repeated.’

Candice Storey Lee, Vanderbilt’s Vice Chancellor of Athletics says that they have the votes to remove Tennessee from SEC play. She added that Ole Miss, Kentucky, Florida, South Carolina, Missouri, Auburn, Arkansas, and Texas A&M have all said that the will vote Tennessee out of the SEC. No commitments yet from Georgia and only Alabama, Mississippi State, & LSU have said that they would vote against the measure.

Alabama Coach, Nick Saban said, “If we kick Tennessee out, we will lose that automatic win every October and then will have to play Georgia and Florida more often”. Alabama gets a break by having Tennessee as their permanent opponent from the East every year while it’s main SEC West Rivals of Auburn and LSU have to play Georgia and Florida every year from the East.

LSU’s athletic director, Scott Woodward said, “We can’t punish teams for it’s fans behavior! Every game is like this at LSU! We pride ourselves on our fans passion and would then have to ban alcohol from LSU games! “. He added that would sit well with Louisiana folks!

Mississippi State coach Mike Leak said, “I respect fans that throw shit at Ole Miss! I’ll encourage our fans to throw eggs at them for our rivalry game in October!”

University of Kentucky, Eli Capilouto who supports the action, said “The Big 12 is looking for new members and Tennessee would fit in better there! They would have a natural rivalry with fellow trashy woodbooger fans at West Virginia! ”

The vote will be held this Thursday and could cost the University millions. At then end of the day, this vote will pave the way for the only orange “T” in the SEC to come from the soon to be member, Texas. Some wonder if Texas is behind the scenes working on this?
