New York Marijuana Legalization for All Teens (13+)

Andrew M. Cuomo, re-elected the 56th Governor of New York State on November 6, 2018, has a lifelong commitment to public service and the proven leadership skills to make government work for the people of the state. On August 10th, 2021, he had publicly stated his resignation from his position in New York State as Governor. Before his departure, people had been reporting more Marijuana uses in Adolescents. An estimated 78% of teenagers ranging 13-19 from the years (2005, 2007, 2010; increasing majorly as the year of 2021), have found to be active marijuana users.

On March 31, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed into law the New York State Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act (“MRTA”) which legalized recreational use of marijuana for adults over the age of 21.

Effective immediately, the Act also institutes employment protections for cannabis users. Section 201-d of the New York Labor Law (“NYLL”) has long prohibited New York employers from discriminating against an employee based upon the employee’s lawful outside, off-duty work activities.

At age 16 in New York State, adolescents are now allowed to buy marijuana flowers, concentrates or cartridges from local dispensaries in their schooling/ housing district.
