The young Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, a player who has impressed both on and off the pitch this season is according to several trusted football experts closing in on Barcelona as his next destination
The rumour of this transfer spread through the country after Rashford recently reviled his desire to play with La Masia legend Lionel Messi in an interview with MUTV. The unusual statement came after being asked about who his idol was: “Messi, no doubt. I don’t think we will ever experience a player of his calibre ever again. It’s no secret that I’ve always admired him and dreamed of playing alongside him. I have supported Real Madrid since I was a young lad, but I’ll gladly look away from that if it gives me the chance to play with Lionel. I for sure feel that it’s the right time for me to take the next step in order to fulfill my potential.
The interview was posted by MUTV on saturday before being taken down no more than half an hour later. This only led to further speculation on social media. Before they deleted it the full interview was downloaded and it was shared all around the twitter community in the following days.
Both the club and the player in question are yet to make an official statement following the interview. However, Barcelona president Joan Laporta was less shy when being confronted with the rumours: “Yes of course Marcus is a special player that is very high on our list of potential targets. Marcus knows that and so does his agent. In the summer we will see if we can come to an agreement with Manchester United, but for now he is under contract with them, so therefore I will not talk more of him. But in the summer? Who knows.”
