How to Successfully Create An Interactive Birthday Scavenger Hunt

♕ FOR BRIGHT AND CLEVER THINKERS ♕
By Audrey DeBest
In life, birthdays are a big deal. The meaning of birthdays may vary depending on age. When you are young, birthdays mean that you’re getting presents, cake, and a birthday party. In your midlife, it means you’re getting older and have more responsibilities (sigh). When your hair is all white, it means that you’re older than most of your friends and wiser. (Audrey DeWise? Audrey DeWhitehaired?) But no matter your age, birthdays are meant to be a celebration.
A birthday is a landmark, it marks the end of one year and the start of another. A birthday is special and only happens once in a lifetime. (Well, I mean you’re only 10 once.) Thus, it should be celebrated . . . with a scavenger hunt! If you’re looking for ideas to create your own birthday scavenger hunt, here’s the place for you! (Technically, that’s the reason why you’re reading this anyway.) So, read on, merry traveler!
First off, the clues. Every good scavenger hunt needs clues, some clues can be simple rhyming clues, while some can be more complex. I’m talking about the complex clues. Here is a list of clues that you could use. Of course, think outside the box as well!
Rebuses
Word Scrambles, Crossword puzzles
Rhyming clues
Logic puzzles
Hidden clues (lemon juice and heat)
Coloring clue (color the place where the next clue is)

Try to hide them in places where they most likely won’t be found. Inside, outside, in plain sight, behind the door, in your pocket, etc.
Of course, there needs to be a reward (treasure) at the end. You can either do some gifts at each clue, or you can make a big gift pile for the end. Have some variety. If it is for older slightly more mature children, you can complicate it a bit. For instance, you could add a timer or a countdown clock. Or, put the gifts in a safe and provide clues on how to unlock the safe. (You can change the code afterward, of course.)
This article that you are reading is a guidebook on how to create, even the most complex birthday scavenger hunts for your child. So, reread this with great care and there you go! Create your own scavenger hunt!
