Former One Direction Star Aria Islam Opens Up About Past Issues

Aria Islam has spoken out and opened up in a heartwarming and very up close and personal interview with her sister, Bella.

“Whenever people talk about being a model they say

‘Well being a model must feel amazing and make your self confidence be extremely high because the whole job depends on you being beautiful, if you’re not beautiful you wouldn’t succeed’

but if we really back up and look at that sentence then we can see what’s wrong with it. ‘The whole job of a model is essentially looking good or beautiful’ which also means that people can criticize me and tell me to lose weight yet it’s not inappropriate or disgusting, and honestly it’s their job.”

The singer and songwriter goes on to talk about her previous issues with body image. “There was one of my friends in high school who saw that I wasn’t eating as much and thought

‘oh this bitch must not like the food she brings from home, I’ll bring her another lunch’

and she’s honestly so sweet even if she acts like she hates me, but now I had to throw away two lunches and I was worried.”

The sisters also dove deeper by slowly opening up about their relationship with each other,

“I honestly hated you when you first came into my life.” The former one direction star did not hold back.
“If we’re being honest so did I, I had dreamt up an amazing big sister in my head and when you told me to essentially fuck off my hopes and dream crushed.” supermodel Bella confessed.

The sisters continued to talk about their relationship, but ended with a sweet and teary moment.

“I’m so glad you made me get to know you” Aria said teary eyed.
“Stop crying! Now you’re making my cry. Haha! there are tears literally rolling down your face.” Bella trying to lighten the moment a bit. “In all seriousness, I’m so glad I kept trying to get to know you as well”

Not only did they talk about body issues and their relationship, this iconic duo also talked about handling racism, their mom, anxiety, being bi and more! Watch the full video on Vogue’s YouTube channel.
