Jorden Van Forrest wins Tata Steel in dramatic fashion

Dutch Grandmaster Jorden Van Forrest won the 83rd annual Tata steel Chess chanpionship in Wilk an jii on Sunday. The 23 year old, who was trailing world number 11 Anish Giri entering the final day managed to win his game and face Anish, who tied his in a tiebreak. The first two three minute games were a draw and thus started the Armageddon game where Giri had to win with the white pieces and an extra minute to win the tournament. Giri lost an early chance to win and the game was looking very tied, which would win for Van Forrest before Van Forrest strangely blundered a bishop. Giri however in a winning position lost on time two moves before reaching time control. Van Forrest also joined the 2700 club. Forrest told Channel46news he was “very happy” and he “had dreamed of it since he was a child.
