Basketball Players of the Week For State of Mississippi

A new week starts in 1 day for High School basketball in Mississippi, but first, let’s take a look at last week’s best players from schools in the South.

Cortez Dennis (G) Stone County
Dennis put on a show at the Paul Wallace Classic held in Vancleave, MS. He led his team to 5th place and had a total of 64 points averaging around 22 for the week. He was also busy on the boards, racking up 57. Scouts from many colleges are looking at him, which is expected from the 6’6 guard. Stone now sits at 3-5 thanks to Cortez Dennis.

Avery Carter (PF/SF) Ocean Springs
Ocean Springs also played at the Paul Wallace Classic hoping to jumpstart their season and improve from a shaky start. Although that did not happen Avery Carter did not quit. He finished the tournament with 53 points and many flashy dunks. His athletic ability goes hard in the paint. Carter has dunked on multiple defenders this year including one nasty behind the backboard reverse slam on top of a Vancleave defender. Ocean springs sits at 2-7 but expect more from Avery Carter and Co.

Trey Pickich (G/C) Vancleave
Many say Pickich was robbed from MVP from the Paul Wallace Classic. While on the Bench, many people chanted “MVP” says athletic director Matthew Walters. Pickich produced very well tallying 95 high fives, 69 butt slaps, started one defensive chant, and traveled. Pickich will lead his team and bench against St. Stanislaus while Trace Sonnier gets boxed and one presumably.
