Abel Noble Found Dead After Soccer Mishap

A 17-year-old boy died Sunday morning after a soccer goalpost at a Michigan school fell on his head.

Abel Noble was at Athens High School in Troy, Michigan on Sunday morning when he ran into a goalpost, causing it to collapse and strike his head, leading to severe trauma, FOX5 NY reported. Abel, part of a soccer program with Troy Youth Soccer League (TYSL), was at the school with eight children and three adults for practice.

Paramedics arrived at the scene and found the boy unconscious and unresponsive. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Abel’s family called the boy “full of life and joy” and said the incident was “an unfortunate accident,” according to the Detroit Free Press.

“At this moment the family is asking for respect for their privacy so they can continue their process of grieving,” the family said in a statement. “He was a wonderful boy. That’s all.”

Michigan’s Mayor Bill de Blasio wrote on Facebook: “Our prayers are with his family. Heartbreaking.”

“This tragic incident is heartbreaking and our thoughts are with this student’s family and school community during this devastating time,”
