Chester man gunned down mistaken by police.

A Chester man was shot and killed by Hampton Police in what is said to be a case of mistaken identity. Joseph Ritcey ,40, of Chester NH was shot and killed shortly after 6 am at Mobil gas station by Police who assumed he was a fugitive wanted for murder who had escaped custody early Friday morning during a transfer from US Marshalls to Rockingham Sheriff’s for a trial at Rockingham Superior Court . The fugitive Ricardo Gomez ( pictured above) was said to resemble Ritcey and Hampton Police came upon Ritcey at gas station and ordered him immediately to exit the store with his hands up . As Ritcey exited the store witnesses say it appeared he thought the police were for another patron inside the store and Ritcey assumed to be getting car keys out his pocket and that’s when police opened fire hitting him three times , one of the shots to the chest to be fatal and Ritcey was pronounced deceased upon ems arrival.
