On the well-known writing website, Wattpad, there is an account gone viral that goes by the name Charis Criag.
Many did not think much of this account at first and decided that it was just your everyday normal person who makes accounts as jokes, but one day she posts a comment on another account with a Flash fiction that catches us all by surprise. The contents of this message were deleted by the owner of the page Criag had posted them on but they were said to be a cryptic message in Russian.
On August 27, many had heard about this message and went to find out what it had said, but it had been deleted, and in replace was an abundance of messages from a new account called Chariscriagisaliar. These messages essentially all said the same thing but the main point was that Charis Criag was a Russian hacker and she was lying. This somehow sent a warning message to every single account on the platform which made people nervous, some even suspecting this new account was the actual Charis Criag.
So who really is Charis Criag? Some people have theorized that Kelissa, the owner of the account where the original message from Criag was posted is just making a joke for her fans, but more believe that there was no way anyone could find a way to send a message to everyone on the platform and that maybe it was a joke from Wattpad or a hacking scam. Wattpad came out with a statement saying “We are working hard to find out who Charis Criag is but after attempting to take down her account, our computer systems have crashed several times. Stand by for further information.”
Though it is possible this is a joke on Kelissa or Wattpad’s account, it is more likely that the website is being taken over by hackers and that Chariscriagisaliar has been telling the truth.
More on the account accusing Criag of lying, she was asked by Wattpad team members how she knew this and she responded with “she’s a hacker, I know it.” before running away screaming “Varity.”
People questioned the meaning behind Varity and even tried translating it but nothing was found.
Hopefully we can soon find out who is behind Charis Criag.
