Reduced requirement for YouTube monetization

As of this writing on 17 August, Google’s video sharing platform YouTube will be changing it’s threshold for monetization of creators’ content

In 2013, YouTube changed their policy of allowing creators to monetize on their platform. The requirement was for creators to have 1000 subscribers and 4000 public watch hours for channels to consider applying for ad revenue. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic however, the company has been aiming to support smaller creators in a bid to keep the platform popular amongst it’s users

The new requirement is to have at least 100 subscribers and 100 watch hours, which can be achieved by having had viewers view the videos of creators for a total of one hundred hours.

This news comes after Google announced that it was extending it’s Partner Program to less popular YouTube creators in hopes to motivate them to continue creating videos. YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki announced the change. “We thought we would do what’s best to improve the landscape of YouTube. We hope it brings better results for 2020 and 2021
