Mice coughing white mucus

We all get sick from time to time, and this includes our pets. Even tiny little mice can get sick, too, although it can be harder to tell.

What is the white liquid?

When mice have respiratory problems they could have a rare symptom called White Mucus.
White Mucus is a white substance a mouse cough outs when they have respiratory problems. This can also happen when a mice is stressed or sad.

How does White Mucus look like?

There are actually different types of Mucus.
One type of mucus is really hard and bright white. The other type is soft and less white and more of a grey color.

If your pet looks like is coughing and eventually coughs out a white substance it may be White Mucus. You should be very careful if the hard type of mucus goes on any fabric like clothes carpet etc. If your mouse coughs out hard White Mucus and it goes on fabric make sure to immediately clean. How to clean the mucus? Take cotton with alcohol or nail polish remover and dab it on the mucus until it comes out or is easier to remove. It is very important to clean it immediately since the hard substance on the fabric can destroy the fabric. Why does the hard mucus do this? Mucus can also come to human when they have a cold. But when it comes to mice it is different.

What happens when mucus goes on clothes? When the hard mucus goes on clothes it can get stuck there depends on how fast you treat it, it kinda is like gum it gets stuck anywhere.

What happens when it goes on carpet? When mucus arrives to the carpet it will get attached to the fibers, another way to imagine this is if you put glue on a carpet it gets destroyed. Mucus is exactly like that except that it goes deep and breaks the carpet fibers. If you see a hard white area in your carpet and your carpet pieces around the area the mucus is already attached to the carpet which could lead to permanent damage.

Make sure to not to touch the mucus without gloves on. The White Mucus contains a lot of bacteria which could cause you a risk of disease.

Make sure you take care of your pet and take to a veterinarian when needed.
